Heidelberg Material’s Airvault plant in France will be one of Europe’s cement plants with the lowest CO2 footprint by 2030. Now, the first step nears completion with the installation of the new kiln 6 with 4000 tpd clinker capacity, which will replace two older semi-wet kilns (we reported here 14. March 2024). The new kiln system from thyssenkrupp Polysius is under installation, after finishing a new crusher and vertical mills. The new kiln system will decrease CO2 emissions by about 27% and boosting alternative fuel use by almost 90%. In the next step a CCUS system will be installed with a planned capture capacity of nearly 1 Mta of CO₂ annually. The AirvaultGOCO₂ is part of the broader GOCO₂ initiative to decarbonise the West of France.
