Kenya’s East African Portland Cement (EAPC) recommissioned its Athi River cement plant, after a temporarily one-month shutdown. This is part of a SH 400m turnaround initiative to increase the cement capacity of the plant to 1.0 Mta within the next two years. After a deterioration of the plant in the last few years, presently about 0.31 Mta are produced. Several parts of the plant were refurbished including the kiln shell, refractories, the clinker cooler and filter bags. Due to a growing market demand, EAPC is willing to increase its cement production and the plant efficiency to make significant progress in reducing carbon emissions and further solidifying the company’s commitment to sustainability.
