Carbon capture is central to any realistic plan for decarbonising the cement industry. Northern Ireland’s Nuada, which rebranded this year from MOF Technologies Ltd. is in the ‘Innovandi Open Challenge Programme’ of the GCCA with Holcim, SCG, Cementos Argos and Cementos Molins to scale-up a new carbon capture technology. The company combined advanced solid sorbents (Metal-Organic Frameworks or MOFs) and vacuum swing technology to enable a very efficient separation of CO2 from process emissions via a “heatless” and solvent-free system.
