Pakistan’s Attock Cement started 4th production line
Attock Cement Pakistan Limited (ACPL) successfully completed a new cement production line at its plant in Hub, Balochistan. The new line from Sinoma has a capacity of 1.3 Mta and brings ACPL’s clinker capacity to 4.08 Mta and the cement capacity to 4.3 Mta, expanding the country’s idle capacity at a time when construction activities remained slow amid elevated inflation and record-high interest rates. ACPL reported that the 1.H of FY2023-24 started promisingly for its Falcon cement brand, but during the second quarter local sales were affected due to unstable economic and other difficult conditions.

In FY 2023/24 the cement production in India increased by +9.1% to an impressive 415.5 Mta, after 380.7 Mta in FY 2022/23. The cement capacity capacity utilization rate increased to 76.2%, although in the FY 23/24 an additional 42.5 Mta capacity became operational in India.
Mexico’s cement production up by +6.2% in 2M 2024
In the first 2 months of 2024, Mexico's cement production from integrated cement plants increased by +6.2% to 6.979 Mt, after 6.474 Mt in 2023 and 6.288 Mt in 2021, in January and February. While the Jan. increase in 2024 has been still +3.3% YoY , the Feb. increase has been even +9.3% YoY.
India’s UltraTech orders several Gebr. Pfeiffer VRMs
India’s UltraTech Cement ordered several vertical roller mills (VRM) from Gebr. Pfeiffer. The VRMs are for three new clinker production lines in different location in India and were awarded as a follow-up order to Gebr. Pfeiffer SE, Germany, and its Indian subsidiary Gebr. Pfeiffer (India). The order includes the MVR 5000 R4 mill (photo) with a 5300 MW drive and integrated SLS 5300 VR high-efficiency classifier for raw material grinding. Such a mill is for the grinding of 705 tph to a product fineness of 1.5 % R 212 µm. For the grinding of 90 t/h of coal or 45 t/h of pet coke three vertical roller mills MPS 3550 BK with 1300 KW drive will be supplied.
Texas Lehigh Cement invests in a slag grinding plant
Texas Lehigh Cement, which is a 50/50 JV between Heidelberg and Eagle Materials, will start a slag grinding unit in Huston, Texas this summer. The plant will have a production capacity of 0.5 Mta to supplement Texas Lehigh’s cement manufacturing plant in Buda, Texas. With this new facility, the company strengthens its cementitious footprint in the fast-growing Texas market to meet the increasing demand for more sustainable and resilient building materials and to reduce the carbon intensity of its product portfolio.
