India’s Shree Cement started a 3.0 Mta cement plant
Shree Cement Limited, one of India's largest cement producers, inaugurated its new integrated cement plant in Dachepalli village, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The integrated 3.0 Mta capacity cement plant (Photo credit: Amit Patel, plant during construction) is designed to serve the growing markets of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, generating about 700 direct jobs. The plant will use up to 30% alternative fuels and meets 75% of its power needs through a 12 MW waste heat recovery system and 21.5 MW solar power plant. With the Guntur plant now operational, Shree Cement plans to expand its current cement capacity of 56.4 Mta to about 80 Mta by 2030.
India’s UltraTech surpasses 150 Mta with 2 new units
India’s UltraTech Cement commissioning two new greenfield cement plants, comprising 5.4 Mta, which expands their total cement capacity to 151.6 Mta. The two new plants are the 2.7 Mta Kukurdih integrated plant (Photo credit HAPBCO, plant under construction,) in Chhattisgarh and the 2.7 Mta Karur grinding unit in the state of Tamil Nadu. Over the last 12 months, UltraTech has expanded its capacity by 18.7 Mta. In addition, the ongoing expansion of 35.5 Mta is actively being implemented across 16 locations and Aditya Birla’s cement flagship is also in the process of closing the proposed acquisition of Kesoram Cement.
Dominica’s cement production increased by +1.7% in 2023
The cement production of the Dominican Republic increased in 2023 by +1.7% to 6.645 Mta, after 6.535 Mta in 2022. According to preliminary figures, in the 4.Q last year, the cement production increased by +1.5% to 1.644 Mt, after 1.620 Mt in the 4.Q in 2022.
Bolivia’s January cement production increased in 2024
Bolivia's cement production increased in January 2024 by +3.4% to 0.351 Mt, after 0.339 Mt in Jan 2023 and 0.304 Mt in Jan. 2022. However, the charts also shows how massively the production has been influenced by the impacts of the Corona crisis.
India’s Udaipur expands its cement capacity to 4.7 Mta
Udaipur Cement Works Limited (UCWL) expanded its cement capacity with the installation of Mill4 at the Dabok Plant in Rajasthan, India. UCWL is a subsidiary of JK Lakshmi Cement and has been established in 1993. The new mill has a cement grinding capacity of 2.5 Mta, which expands the capacity to 4.7 Mta. In October 2023 the 2nd 1.5 Mta kiln line been commissioned in Udaipur (we reported here 25. Oct. 2023). In the last quarter, the company also doubled its waste heat recovery capacity from 6 MW to 12 MW. This has enabled UCWL to achieve a green energy share of more than 50% in total electrical energy consumption.
Russia’s cement production +6.1% after two month
After the first two month of 2024, Russia's cement production increased by +6.1% to 6.145 Mt, after 5.789 Mt in the same period last year. While in January the production declined by -1.3% YoY, February saw an increase by +12.2%, YoY.
