The company operates 3.2 Mta cement capacity and has five distribution centers in Brazil’s central-west and southeast regions, as well as 14 concrete plants and two aggregate quarries. Ciplan utilizes calcined clay in cement production as part of their sustainability initiatives. In June this year it had been announced that concrete producer Realmix shall be acquired with a carbon footprint that is 30% smaller than conventional concrete suppliers. The acquisition is still subject to approval by the Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE).

Martin Marietta and Quikrete to exchange assets in the USA
Martin Marietta Materials entered into a definitive equity and asset exchange agreement with Quikrete Holdings in the USA. Under the terms of the agreement, Martin Marietta (MLM) will receive about 20 Mta aggregates operations in Virginia, Missouri, Kansas and Vancouver and British Columbia, as well as $450 million in cash. In exchange, Quikrete will receive the MLM’s North Texas cement operations with the Midlothian cement plant (photo) and related cement terminals and ready-mixed concrete assets. The South Texas cement operations of MLM were acquired by CRH in February 2024. This strategic move is expected to impact Martin Marietta’s operations by shifting its focus more towards aggregates. The transaction is expected to close in the 1Q 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Carmeuse launched an interesting offer for CBB in Chile
Carmeuse, through its Chilean subsidiary Carmel Holding, has launched a US$ 505m (approximately € 435m) bid to acquire CBB (Cementos Bio Bio), one of Chile’s largest cement and lime producers. CBB sold 1.2 Mta of cement last year as well as significant lime quantities. The company generated revenues of 368 bn pesos (equivalent to € 328m) and posted a net profit of 32.4 bn pesos (€ 28.8m) last year. The intended acquisition aligns with an interest in CBB’s lime production subsidiary Bio Bio Cales, which operates plants in Antofagasta (photo: Antofagasta 2) and Copiapó. The next step in the acquisition could be a public bid by 13 August next week.
