
The Cimpor project to modernize the production line of kiln7 at the Alhandra cement plant in Portugal is on schedule. The project is intended a production capacity increase from 3000 tpd to 3600 tpd, as well as allowing thermal substitution rates to increase from 40% to more than 80%, in order to guarantee, by the end of 2025, the decarbonization of an additional 190 000 tons of CO2 per year. It includes the first installation of KHD Humboldt Wedag’s innovative Pyrorotor® alternative fuel combustion reactor in Portugal (we reported here 10. July 2023). With a total investment of about € 87.7m and an incentive of € 15m, this project was financed by the EU through the Next Generation EU and the Portuguese/EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
