South Africa’s Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) divested a 51% stake in Cimerwa, Rwanda’s top cement producer, operating a 0.6 Mta kiln line (photo) in Bugarama, in the Rusizi district at the South Western border of Rwanda. The divestment is in line with PPC’s strategic exit of Central and East Africa. New owner of Cimerwa is Kenya-based National Cement, which is a subsidiary of the Devki Group. According to Chairman Dr. Narendra Raval, the acquisition of Cimerwa aligns seamlessly with the strategy of the Devki Group of expanding its footprint and furthering its commitment to infrastructure development of the region.
