Uganda’s Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) has finalised a lease agreement to enable Tororo Cement to build a first kiln line in Katikekile, Moroto District. 500 acres of the land were sold to Tororo Cement to build the factory. The remaining 9,450 acres were leased to the government for 49 years, to be used for mining raw materials. Tororo Cement operates a cement grinding plant (photo), using a vertical roller mill. The new project is part of a plan to reduce Uganda’s reliance on imported clinker for cement production and towards boosting the country’s industrial development. Construction of the kiln line is expected to begin in the near future.
