UK’s Power Minerals Limited (PML) and Drax Global have signed a minimum 20-year JV agreement for a beneficiation plant at Drax Power station in North Yorkshire to process coal fly ash. PML is a subsidiary of German EP Power Minerals. The project commences immediately to harvest and process million tons of coal ash that was historically deposited at Barlow Mound, adjacent to the power station site (photo). Depending on the quality characteristics of the deposit the plant will utilize a combination of deagglomeration, drying, sizing and carbon separation by electrostatic means. The initial production capacity shall be 0.4 Mta. The utilization of the EN 450 fly ash over the years will reduce in minimum 6.0 Mta of CO2 emissions, when used as a SCM in the cement and concrete production.
