Holcim leads global calcined clay with Ecuador plant

Holcim is the global leader in the production of calcined clay cements in 2025 with a new plant in Ecuador. The company is accelerating the use of calcined clay that can reduce the CO2 footprint in cement production by 50%. Currently, the company is retrofitting existing kilns, globally. The largest of these is at the Guayaquil cement plant (photo) of Holcim Ecuador, which was commissioned in 2H 2025 and is able to produce up to 0.9 Mta of calcined clay cements. In 2025 Holcim has produced calcined clay at 5 sites, 3 in Europe and 2 in Latin America. In Asia, the Middle East and Africa alone 12 cement kilns are retrofitted. The company aims to operate at least 30 clay production sites by 2030.
