Carmeuse, through its Chilean subsidiary Carmel Holding, has launched a US$ 505m (approximately € 435m) bid to acquire CBB (Cementos Bio Bio), one of Chile’s largest cement and lime producers. CBB sold 1.2 Mta of cement last year as well as significant lime quantities. The company generated revenues of 368 bn pesos (equivalent to € 328m) and posted a net profit of 32.4 bn pesos (€ 28.8m) last year. The intended acquisition aligns with an interest in CBB’s lime production subsidiary Bio Bio Cales, which operates plants in Antofagasta (photo: Antofagasta 2) and Copiapó. The next step in the acquisition could be a public bid by 13 August next week.
