Secil operates 3 cement plants in Portugal and joined Molins in March this year. Kiln 6 of the Maceira-Liz factory (photo) has a capacity of 1800 tpd clinker. In the ProFuture CCL (Clean Cement Line) project the aim was to reduce CO2 emissions of the kiln by about 30% (related to 2019). In 2024, the project received an EU funding of about € 25.57 m, the total project costs were given with € 62.9 m. Last year, the kiln modernisation project was awarded to Sinoma CBMI to achieve zero-fossil fuel and low carbon clinker, while installing a combustion boost and a hybrid waste heat recovery system. This modernisation project shows that with conventional tools large CO2 reductions can be achieved. However, it will be fine to see the first results.
