UAE’s Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA), a leading steel producer in the Middle East region, will use the Magsort technology to use its steel slag at its Al Ain Cement plant (photo). Magsort, a Finnish engineering company, has a proprietary dry technology to refine steel slag, recover most of the metal for downstream BOF or EAF-technologies and provide the processed slag as a cement additive. The refined slag can be used as a zero-CO2 material, reducing a significant proportion of GBFS (granulated blast furnace slag). The pilot project can be a breakthrough achievement for the cement industry and to achieve ESA’s decarbonisation targets.
