InterCement Participações informed that during the last few months, the company has received a series of inquiries and expressions of interest in its assets in Brazil and Argentina. The company operates 15 cement plants with 17.2 Mta capacity in Brazil and has assets in Argentina such as Loma Negra’s Amalfi plant (photo), where Intercement has a 51.04% controlling stake. It has engaged BTG Pactual to assist in evaluating strategic alternatives, including a potential divestment. The value of the Brazil assets alone can be as high as US$ 1.6bn. Potential interested strategic players include Brazil’s Votorantim and Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) and China’s Huaxin, who acquired InterCement’s assets in South Africa and Mozambique. Up to now no decision or commitment has been made.
