Heidelberg Materials’ CCS project at Antoing in Belgium

Belgium Antoing HM

Heidelberg Materials Benelux and Equinor ASA signed an agreement for the Arthemis CCS project at the Antoing cement plant in Belgium towards the realization of the offshore pipeline ‘CO₂ Highway Europe’. From 2029 about 0.8 Mta CO2 shall be captured at the cement plant (photo) by using a hybrid Oxyfuel amine technology.  The captured CO2 shall be transported from Zeebrugge via the 1000 km Equinor offshore pipeline and injected under the Norwegian continental shelf.  Equinor will operate the CO2 Highway Europe project with planned transport and injection capacities of 30 – 50 Mta CO2 by 2035. Accordingly, agreements with key customers such as Heidelberg Materials are essential for the project. The companies are actively pursuing public financing opportunities that will support the project.
